IMPROVING A METHOD FOR ENSURING SPATIAL-TEMPORAL PRIORITY FOR ROUTE PASSENGER VEHICLES AT CONTROLLED INTERSECTIONS IN HETEROGENEOUS TRAFFIC FLOW
Abstract
The aim of this study is to improve the method for ensuring spatial-temporal priority for route passenger vehicles (RPVs) at signalized intersections by developing a geometric condition for the operability of the priority lane and scientifically substantiating the method's robustness to traffic flow heterogeneity. Using kinematic analysis, simulation modeling in the VISSIM environment, and logistic regression, we obtained an analytical condition for unblocked passage through a lock storage area and a critical proportion of unrelated vehicles, which determines the practical effectiveness of the method. It was found that the use of a dedicated lane reduces the maximum delay of public transit vehicles by 44,5% under uniform conditions. However, the critical proportion of unrelated vehicles that disrupts this effect is only p* ≈ 7,1–7,16%, which is significantly below the stability limits for the lane's carrying capacity and geometric capacity.
