Abstract

We propose a novel method to measure the strength and isospin dependence of short-range correlations (SRCs) in nuclei with their collisions at relativistic energies. Since nucleons in the high-momentum tail (HMT) induced by SRCs have large transverse velocities, we find that measuring the yield ratio of free spectator neutrons at large to small transverse distances detected by Zero-Degree Calorimeter (ZDC) array may probe the fraction of nucleons in the HMT. In addition, measuring the yield ratio of ZDC neutrons in central $^{96}$Zr+$^{96}$Zr to $^{96}$Ru+$^{96}$Ru collisions at large transverse distances may probe the isospin dependence of the HMT and SRCs. Compared to traditional scattering experiments, our study illustrates that relativistic heavy-ion collisions may serve as an alternative way of measuring SRCs in colliding nuclei with less final-state interactions.

Production of Light Nuclei and Hypernuclei in Heavy-Ion Collisions

We review recent STAR and ALICE measurements of light-nucleus and hypernucleus yields, femtoscopic correlations, and collective flow presented at SQM 2026. Statistical-hadronization calculations provide a useful baseline for integrated yields but do not simultaneously describe all measured light-nucleus ratios across c...

Photon-induced $J/\psi$ as a linearly polarized probe of collision geometry in relativistic heavy-ion collisions

In relativistic heavy-ion collisions, the linear polarization of quasi-real photons can correlate the spin orientation of photon-induced vector mesons with the collision geometry. To explore this sensitivity, we present the first measurement of the decay angular distribution of photon-induced $J/\psi$ with respect to t...

Simulating the emission source function in very peripheral relativistic heavy-ion collisions

We present a microscopic femtoscopic investigation of the space-time emission source in low-multiplicity (80--90\% centrality) $\text{Pb}-\text{Pb}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 5.02~\text{TeV}$, using a hybrid transport framework coupling SMASH initial conditions, 3+1D viscous hydrodynamics (vHLLE), and a SMASH hadr...

Femtoscopy as a New Probe of the Nuclear Equation of State

Femtoscopic correlations are widely regarded as precision probes of hadronic interactions through vacuum final-state interactions after kinetic freeze-out. Here we demonstrate that, in baryon-rich heavy-ion collisions, the nuclear mean field generates an additional dynamical contribution to femtoscopic correlations dur...

Measurement of coherent $J/\psi$ in ultraperipheral Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}=5.36$~TeV with the ATLAS detector

The fully stripped ions used in heavy-ion collisions at the LHC are an excellent source of high-energy quasi-real photons. These can interact with photons emitted by the oncoming nucleus, or with the nucleus itself, either directly in inelastic processes or diffractively via pomeron exchange. Diffractive photonuclear p...

Exploring Collective Effects in Small Collision Systems via Light-Flavour Particle Production in High-Multiplicity pp Collisions at $\sqrt{s}=$ 13 TeV in ALICE

High-multiplicity pp and p-Pb collisions show signatures of radial and anisotropic flow, as well as the enhanced production of strange hadrons. These observations resemble phenomena seen in heavy-ion collisions, where a quark-gluon plasma (QGP) is formed, although their origin in small systems remains under discussion....
