TL;DR

The results show that when the typical circular intersection of Fuye Square in Changchun City is changed to a planar cross intersection, the traffic capacity increases from 5326pcu/h to 9,906 pcu/h, and indicators such as queue length, service level, and average vehicle delay are all improved.

Abstract

This study addresses the challenges of insufficient traffic capacity and disorganized traffic flow at roundabouts, particularly under heavy traffic volumes. It investigates signal control optimization strategies for roundabouts and intelligent optimization methods for conventional signalized intersections. A traffic capacity optimization model is constructed, and a multi-index comprehensive evaluation model is based on the VISSIM simulation software. Taking the typical circular intersection of Fuye Square in Changchun City as the research object, the results show that when the circular intersection is changed to a planar cross intersection, the traffic capacity increases from 5326pcu/h to 9,906 pcu/h, and indicators such as queue length, service level, and average vehicle delay are all improved.

Research on spatiotemporal resource allocation methods for intersections facing spillover from flared approaches

The operational status of intersections serves as a critical evaluation metric for urban road networks. For intersections featuring lane widening sections, once traffic volume reaches a certain threshold, queue spillover frequently occurs within these widened segments; this leads to a waste of effective green light tim...

Performance Evaluation and Improvement Strategies: A Case Study of Lainchaur Intersection

Traffic congestion at many intersections in the Kathmandu Valley remains severe despite various traffic control and management measures, and the Lainchaur Intersection, a three-legged junction, is one of the most affected. The congestion is mainly due to uneven traffic distribution, vehicle composition, and the absence...

Multilayer Perceptron-Based Traffic Signal Timing Optimization for Improved Urban Intersection Performance

Urban traffic signal systems based on fixed-time plans may not adequately respond to variations in traffic demand among signalized intersections, limiting their operational efficiency. This study proposes a data-driven framework based on a Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) to support traffic signal timing optimization in an...
