Abstract

With the growth of Asia's industry, concerns over carbon emissions and energy usage have grown. The aim of this study is to test whether the relationship between industrialization and CO₂ emissions remains constant when energy intensity varies within the Asian economies analyzed for the period 2000–2021. Driscoll–Kraay standard errors to account for heteroskedasticity, serial correlation, and cross-sectional dependence. The results indicate that there is a positive relationship between industrialization and energy intensity and CO₂ emissions, while there is a negative relationship between renewable energy consumption and emissions. The main result is that the relationship between industrialization and energy intensity is positive and very strong, meaning that the industrialization process becomes more intensive in energy consumption as energy intensity increases. This is confirmed by the marginal effects estimates: at low energy intensity levels, there is no statistically significant link between industrialization and emissions, while the link is positive and gradually more pronounced at average and high energy intensity levels. The results indicate that reduction in energy intensity is one of the key factors for cleaner industrial development in the selected Asian economies.

Revisiting The Nexus Between Globalization, Energy Use, And Carbon Emissions: An Empirical Analysis for ASEAN Economies

This paper investigates the relationship between non-renewable energy consumption, globalization and carbon emissions under the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) hypothesis, based on the observations of ASEAN economies between 1990 and 2023, which are unbalanced panel data. A panel cointegration analysis is used to exp...

The impact of energy consumption on environmental pollution in newly industrialized countries

This study examines the impact of energy consumption on the environment for ten newly industrialized countries through panel data methods using the data covering the period 1970-2022. Due to the presence of cross-section dependence in the panel data, the CIPS unit root test is performed. The cointegration test shows th...

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ECONOMIC GROWTH, ENERGY CONSUMPTION AND CO₂ EMISSIONS IN EURASIAN COUNTRIES: A PANEL ANALYSIS BASED ON THE EKC APPROACH

This study examines the relationship between economic growth, energy consumption, renewable energy use, and carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions in 12 Eurasian countries over the period 2000–2024. The study employs the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) framework to evaluate the relationship between economic growth and enviro...

DOES RENEWABLE ENERGY RESHAPE THE RESOURCE ENVIRONMENTAL DEGRADATION NEXUS? EVIDENCE FROM RESOURCE INTENSIVE ASIAN ECONOMIES

Are the adversative environmental impacts of natural-resource reliance being reduced by renewable energy? The present study investigates the linkage among natural-resource rents, renewable-energy, and CO₂ emissions in the nine resource-intensive Asian economies in the period 1995–2022. The analysis uses balanced panel...
