TL;DR

Evaluated the accuracy of commonly used empirical resting oxygen consumption equations in adults with a Fontan circulation and quantified the downstream impact on indirect Fickderived systemic blood flow.

Abstract

We evaluated the accuracy of commonly used empirical resting oxygen consumption (VO2) equations in adults with a Fontan circulation. We compared estimated with directly measured resting VO2 and quantified the downstream impact on indirect Fickderived systemic blood flow. The objective was to determine whether these formulas are reliable for individualized Fontan hemodynamic assessment.

Difference in Collection Times, Blood Gas Variables, and Atelectasis Between Two Arterial Sampling Methods in Dogs

To assess how two different arterial blood sampling methods, from the femoral artery (FA) or the dorsal pedal artery (DPA), influence the collection time, gas variables, and pulmonary atelectasis on computed tomography (CT) under sedation.

Venous Oxygenation Measurements in the Upper Arm: Reproducibility and Sensitivity to a Physical Challenge

The feasibility and reproducibility of adapting the T2‐Relaxation‐Under‐Spin‐Tagging (TRUST) MRI sequence for noninvasive measurement of venous oxygenation in the upper arm were investigated, aiming to enable future in vivo validation of T2b‐oxygenation calibration curves in sickle cell disease (SCD).

Ability of the PulseCO Algorithm to Assess Changes in Stroke Volume Induced by Changes in Vascular Tone

ABSTRACT Background Vasoconstriction during anesthesia can influence stroke volume (SV) by preload modulation, making accurate SV monitoring essential to guide vasopressor therapy. Since gold standard methods like pulmonary artery catheterization and lithium dilution provide only intermittent estimates, continuous and...

Resuscitation

Blast injuries can produce complex patterns of injury and can easily result in hemorrhagic shock. Adequate resuscitation of blast-injured patients is critical, as both under- and over-resuscitation can result in a number of fatal complications. Consideration must be given to the choice of resuscitative fluid, the volum...

Non‐Invasive Assessment of Endothelial Dysfunction and Arterial Stiffness in Fontan Circulation

The Fontan procedure constitutes the definitive surgical strategy for complex congenital heart disease, establishing a circulation in which systemic venous blood is directed to the pulmonary arteries through a staged reconstruction that separates systemic and pulmonary venous return in the absence of a subpulmonary ven...
