Artificial Intelligence in EducationEthics and Social Impacts of AI
Abstract
Through technologies like intelligent tutoring systems, learning analytics, adaptive learning platforms, and generative AI, artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming education by making learning more efficient, personalized, and interactive. Large volumes of student data are necessary for these technologies to comprehend learning trends, deliver prompt feedback, and aid in educational decision making. While AI has many advantages for educators, institutions, and students, it also brings up significant issues regarding the gathering, storing, sharing, and security of student data. As educational institutions implement AI-enabled systems, concerns about privacy, informed consent, data ownership, transparency, fairness, and ethical use have grown in significance. The main obstacles to safeguarding student data in AI-driven education are examined in this chapter, including concerns about surveillance, algorithmic bias, cybersecurity threats, and unauthorized access.
The method, ECCOLA, is presented, which aims at making the high-level AI ethics principles more practical, making it possible for developers to more easily implement them in practice.
