Sep 2026 · Seminario Internacional de Investigación en Urbanismo · 0 citations

Abstract

Starting from a critique of modernist urbanism for neglecting the needs of marginalized populations and favoring the concentration of power and wealth, this study examines urban resistance processes that challenge the exclusionary logic of current urbanism. The work presents alternatives to urban planning, highlighting counter-hegemonic practices that promote a more just and inclusive urbanization. Using case studies in Brazil, such as the Bairro 2 de Julho in Salvador and the Serviluz community in Fortaleza, the research illustrates how organized social movements strain dominant urban practices. The methodological approach is qualitative and descriptive, supported by a theoretical review and documentary analysis. The research advocates the construction of urbanism based on inclusion, cooperation, and social justice, using concepts like counter-hegemony and urban commons. The conclusions highlight the importance of citizen participation and the incorporation of marginalized perspectives to create more just and inclusive cities. This approach offers a significant contribution to the debate on urban resistance and inclusive planning, proposing reflections and tools to guide future urban practices.
