Abstract
Wavefront quality often dominates throughput of device such as optical cross-connect switch and free-space optical communication. MEMS SLM enables flexible beam routing and steering, however it is known that the deformation of MEMS backbone. Or warp of the die introduces wave aberration due to the reflective nature of the MEMS-SLM. To correct for the aberration induced by die warp, we investigate optical compensation of the aberration by binary computer-generated hologram (CGH) for a visible-pixel MEMS phase light modulator operated at 1550 nm. A Littrow interferometry at 632.8 nm measures the spatial phase error, which is encoded through local displacement of linear CGH profile uopon beam steering. Correction performance is evaluated by point spread functions (PSF) of steered beam with CGH having grating periods of 2, 5, 10, and 15 pixels. After correction, the PSF exhibits close to diffraction limited performance as the central-lobe extent is approximately 9 × 16 camera pixels, compared with a theoretical reference of 7.2 × 14.3 pixels.
Imaging detectors under intense light suffer from local saturation and reduced visibility. We propose a co-design methodology for active front-end interference suppression. This framework formulates the coupled physical constraints of beam separation, conjugate transfer, and non-rotationally symmetric aberration correc...
In free-space optical communication (FSOC) applications, multi-ring perfect optical vortex beams (MR-POVBs) exhibit significant advantages owing to their high-dimensional multiplexing capacity and stable beam profile. However, during transmission, they are susceptible to atmospheric turbulence, which induces wavefront...
Long-wave infrared (LWIR) metalenses are important for compact thermal imaging and remote sensing applications, and a rapid, cost-effective, and high-precision fabrication method is highly desirable. Here, we propose polarization-modulated maskless digital lithography based on a continuous-wave (CW) laser and a spatial...

ABSTRACT Interferometric near‐field scanning optical microscopy (NSOM) enables simultaneous measurement of both the amplitude and phase of the optical near field. In its aperture‐type implementation, the local field is collected through a sub‐wavelength aperture and an optical fiber. The choice of this fiber imposes an...

High-precision three-dimensional (3D) sensing is essential for robotics and automation. However, conventional structured light (SL) systems often lack spatial reconfigurability for high-dynamic-range (HDR) scenarios, while reconfigurable SL pattern generators such as optical phased arrays (OPAs) and lens-assisted foc...
Digital holographic wavefront sensors in the on-axis phase-shifting recording geometry (PSRG) can estimate the complex optical field while using a strong local oscillator (LO) to boost weak received signals above the focal-plane-array noise floor. Here, we experimentally demonstrate the measurement of tilt, while boost...
