Improving social studies learning outcomes through the use of Canva-based interactive learning media in eighth grade
Abstract
This study was motivated by the issue of low social studies achievement among eighth-grade students in Class VIII C at SMP Negeri 1 Dusun Selatan, as evidenced by a pre-cycle class-wide mastery rate of only 68% due to the predominance of conventional teaching methods and the lack of technology integration. This study aims to improve student learning outcomes through the implementation of Canva-based interactive learning media. The research method used the Kemmis and McTaggart model of Classroom Action Research (CAR), conducted in two cycles with 31 students. Data collection was conducted using cognitive learning outcome tests and activity observation sheets. The research findings showed a gradual and significant improvement in learning outcomes; learning achievement increased from 68% in the pre-cycle to 84% in Cycle I, and reached 94% in Cycle II after the strategy was revised to individual projects. This improvement demonstrates that Canva is effective in bridging the understanding of abstract concepts through engaging visualizations, as well as in enhancing students’ independence and active participation. It is concluded that the implementation of project-based learning with the aid of Canva has a positive and significant impact on improving the quality of the social studies learning process and outcomes.
