Child Development and Digital Technology Innovative Human-Technology Interaction

Abstract

The increasing involvement of the emotional Artificial Intelligence and affective computing in child-oriented digital space has revolutionized the organization of persuasion, engagement and consumption. This chapter reviews mood-responsive marketing systems, which deduce and respond to the emotional state of children in real-time, a concept known as invisible persuasion to explain the influence of algorithmic marketing at the unconscious level. Basing the analysis on the interdisciplinary theory and recent case studies of educational platforms and smart toy ecosystems, the analysis indicates how the emotional inference, adaptive reward calibration, and loops of reinforcement influence engagement and dependency. The chapter points out the ethical, psychological and governance issues stating that AI design should be emotionally responsible, protecting the autonomy of children, their well-being, and limits of their development.
