Generative Adversarial Networks and Image SynthesisMedical Image Segmentation Techniques
Abstract
The scarcity of high-quality, fully annotated 3D medical imaging data poses a major challenge for the development of robust AI-based CAD systems. In lung cancer screening, volumetric CT data with detailed segmentation masks, including nodules, are critical for training data-driven models. We propose a generative framework for the synthesis of anatomically plausible 3D lung segmentation masks with controllable nodule insertion, extending prior 2D mask-generation work to volumetric data and comparing multiple GAN-based architectures. We further introduce a two-step strategy that decouples lung anatomy generation from nodule synthesis to improve anatomical coherence and controllability. On the LIDC-IDRI dataset, the proposed approach generates anatomically plausible and structurally diverse 3D lung masks, suitable as conditioning priors for downstream mask-guided CT synthesis.
The method, ECCOLA, is presented, which aims at making the high-level AI ethics principles more practical, making it possible for developers to more easily implement them in practice.

AI agents can generate code at a scale that’s hard for humans to review line-by-line. PDD Kit helps ensure the code is doing what the developer intended by creating formal specifications and testing against them. It converts developer intent into a Verus specification, proves AI-generated code meets it for every input, and uses tests where proofs aren't practical. Developers review intent, not every line.
