Abstract
Abstract Sixth-generation (6G) optical wireless links require high spectral efficiency at low energy cost, but the high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of direct-current-biased optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (DCO-OFDM) forces large LED back-off, causes nonlinear distortion and clipping noise, and lowers electrical-to-optical conversion efficiency. This paper proposes an adaptive tone-reservation and bias-optimization (ATR-BO) scheme for 6G optical DCO-OFDM links. A small set of subcarriers, 8 % of the positive-frequency bins, is reserved for peak cancellation, and a single constrained peak-minimization problem yields both the cancellation coefficients and the minimum feasible optical bias. Because the reserved tones carry no data, no side information is needed at the receiver. Monte-Carlo simulations with 64–512 subcarriers, 16-QAM, four-times oversampling, a nonlinear Rapp LED model, and 104 frames show a PAPR reduction of 3.4–4.8 dB at the 10−3 CCDF level and an SNR gain of about 2 dB at the 10−2 BER level, while the in-band spectrum is preserved. The method is more computationally demanding than conventional DCO-OFDM and selective mapping, and the study is simulation-based; complexity, limitations, and future work are, therefore, also discussed in detail.
Abstract Visible-light communication (VLC) and free-space optical wireless communication offer high-frequency platforms for high-rate satellite links, while nonorthogonal multiple access (NOMA) enables multiple users to share the same optical resource. This paper investigates signal detection in a two-user optical NOMA...

Abstract In visible light communication (VLC) systems, orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is often used, but its high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduces system efficiency. To address the significant PAPR challenge in direct current–biased optical OFDM (DCO-OFDM), asymmetrically clipped optical OF...

This paper investigates a color shift keying (CSK)-based direct-current-biased optical orthogonal time frequency space (DCO-OTFS) waveform for visible light communica-tions (VLC) systems. In the proposed structure, red-green-blue (RGB) intensity components generated by 8CSK modulation are mapped onto a Hermitian-symmet...

The fundamental modulation scheme of 4G LTE and 5G networks is Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM), which, however, has a high Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR). This elevated PAPR greatly impairs the efficiency of the High-Power Amplifier (HPA) and consumes mobile battery power. The present paper provid...

Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) is expected to play a key role in future sixth-generation (6G) networks, where random data-bearing signals are reused to support both communications and sensing, thereby improving time-frequency utilization. In practice, the high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of conventi...
