The Reflection and Application of Communicative Language Teaching in English Teaching

Abstract

Emerging in late 1960s, Communicative Language Teaching showed some changes in the British language teaching tradition. It shifted from Situational Language Teaching about the mere mastery of structures to emphasize communicative proficiency. This approach has brought great influence to foreign language education, especially the English instruction. Here it briefly discusses some language and learning theories about Communicative Language Teaching, and certain principles are provided for teachers to improve teaching efficiency and for learners to take their responsibility in learning. Finally,one listening and speaking class in senior high school will be conducted to show the application of Communicative Language Teaching, hoping to facilitating English teaching.
