Circadian Biology: Timing Matters in Physiology and Pathophysiology Type 1 diabetes differentially disrupts right and left ventricular daily rhythms

· 0 citations · 40 references

TL;DR

Evidence is provided that the healthy right ventricle (RV), like the left ventricle (LV), possesses an intrinsic circadian clock with robust 24-h rhythmicity, and that diabetes differentially disrupts circadian regulation of the RV and LV, with selective vulnerability of the clock-controlled output genes despite preservation of the core oscillator.

Single-cell transcriptomics reveals cell-type-specific circadian rhythms and their disruption by acute misalignment in mouse aorta

The circadian molecular clock is a 24-hour cellular timekeeper that influences many features of cardiovascular function. Disruption of the circadian clock via misalignment with the light-dark cycle is associated with a higher incidence of cardiovascular disease and raises cardiovascular risk factors in humans. Nonethel...

Circadian Systems and Neural Control of Blood Pressure

Blood pressure (BP) follows a robust circadian rhythm and disruption of this rhythm is associated with hypertension and increased cardiovascular disease risk. This review discusses the current understanding of how circadian mechanisms regulate the neural control of BP, with a focus on autonomic brain circuits, local mo...

ET B receptors contribute to synchrony between blood pressure and other peripheral circadian rhythms in the Sprague-Dawley rat.

Maintaining temporal coordination of physiological function is essential for good health. To determine how the endothelin axis regulates the timing of blood pressure (BP) and key physiological rhythms, we monitored circadian rhythmicity of BP and other variables by telemetry in male and female Sprague Dawley rats with...

BMAL1 in cardiovascular diseases: Molecular mechanisms, circadian regulation and translational perspectives (Review)

Brain and muscle ARNT-like 1 (BMAL1) is a core transcription factor of the molecular circadian clock and links daily timing with cardiovascular electrophysiology, metabolism, vascular function and inflammation. Altered BMAL1 expression or rhythmicity has been reported in arrhythmias, atherosclerosis, myocardial ischemi...

Environmental circadian disruption alters rhythmicity of clock and epigenetic gene expression in SKH-1 female mouse livers.

Endogenous circadian rhythms are primarily entrained by environmental cues that are used to regulate the function of cells and peripheral tissues throughout the body. We found that disrupted light schedules - reflective of shift work conditions - demonstrated impaired gene expression throughout the 24-h day in core clo...
