Synergistic Effect of Botanicals and Microbial Biocontrol Agents against Root-Knot Nematode, Meloidogyne incognita, infesting Banana

2026 · Indian Journal of Nematology · 0 citations

Abstract

The present study investigated the use of combinations of organic amendments (neem and mustard cake), marigold and microbial antagonists (Trichoderma harzianum and Pochonia chlamydosporia) to manage root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne incognita infecting banana under pot and field conditions in the Muzaffarpur district, Bihar. The combination of neem with T. harzianum showed a significant decline in the number of galls, females in root tissue, and M, incognita juveniles in soil. Effect of the above treatment was at par with the carbofuran treatment which also significantly reduced the nematode population over untreated control. Other combined treatments were also found effective in suppressing the nematodes counts, and gall numbers in both pot and field conditions. Overall, the study highlights the potential of botanical and microbial combinations as a sustainable alternative for managing rootknot nematode in banana cultivation.

Controlling Root-knot Nematodes (Meloidogyne spp.) using Garlic and Neem Extracts: A Review

Root-knot nematodes (RKNs) are among the most significant causes of economic losses in many crops. Given the environmental and health risks associated with chemical nematicides, plant extracts have emerged as safe and sustainable alternatives. This review examines the efficacy of garlic (Allium sativum) and neem (Azadi...

Concentration-dependent nematicidal activity of Millettia pachyloba extract against the root-knot nematode Meloidogyne incognita in banana (Musa spp.)

Root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne spp.) are among the most destructive plant-parasitic nematodes affecting banana (Musa spp.), causing substantial yield losses worldwide. This study evaluated the concentration-dependent nematicidal activity of Millettia pachyloba ethanolic extract (MP-EA) against Meloidogyne incognita....

Review on biological control of root-knot nematode (meloidogyne spp.) In tomato

Root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne spp. such as Meloidogyne javanica, M. hapla and  M. incognita), belongs to endoparasite, is one of the most important agricultural harmful organisms.  These harmful pathogens are responsible for causing significant yield losses in a wide range of agricultural crops, mostly vegetables, es...

Nematicidal Activity from Extracts of Weeds Lysimachia arvensis and Ipomoea purpurea Against Nacobbus aberrans

The false root-knot nematode, Nacobbus aberrans, is a major threat to Latin American agricultural soils, affecting high-demand crops and posing a potential risk to Europe. Alternatively, using weeds to develop botanical nematicides is a viable strategy given the large amount of available, unused biomass. This study res...

Management of Root-Knot Disease in Chilli by Soil Application of Trichoderma Species

The present study evaluates the efficacy of four Trichoderma species, namely T. harzianum, T. viride, T. asperellum, and T. hamatum, against M. incognita in chilli (Capsicum annuum) cv. NS-1701-DS under polyhouse pot conditions. Inoculation of Meloidogyne incognita 1500 J2/pot reduced the plant growth and yield of chil...
