Influence of Modeling Assumptions on the Structural Performance of Flexible Airfield Pavements Using FAARFIELD and Demoiselle

Abstract The design of airfield pavements is commonly performed using mechanistic–empirical methods implemented in software tools. Although consolidated, these tools incorporate simplified modeling assumptions that may influence the estimated structural responses. In this context, this study evaluates whether different modeling assumptions affect the structural performance of flexible airfield pavements. Five existing flexible airfield pavement structures, characterized through field deflection testing and backcalculation, were reanalyzed using two software tools based on the Layered Elastic Theory for a 20-year design period. The structures were analyzed by allowing the isolated effect of five modeling variables: subgrade Poisson’s ratio, airfield reference temperature applied to the correction of the asphalt surface layer resilient modulus, bonding conditions between the asphalt surface layer and the granular base, aircraft lateral wander, and probabilistic variability of material properties. Structural performance was evaluated based on the Cumulative Damage Factor (CDF) and the estimated pavement service life. For a common reference structure with a baseline service life of 14.6 years, the variation of modeling parameters produced estimates ranging from 3.2 to 27.8 years, with temperature correction and interlayer bonding condition yielding the greatest reductions. The results highlight the sensitivity of mechanistic–empirical analyses to the adopted assumptions and the importance of a rational evaluation of input parameters in airfield pavement design.

Beyond Traditional Engineering: How BIM Is Reshaping Engineering

This conceptual working paper examines how Building Information Modeling (BIM) is reshaping engineering beyond the use of individual authoring tools. It challenges the persistent interpretation of BIM as a software-centered modeling activity and reframes it as an integrated lifecycle methodology for specifying, producing, exchanging, governing, and using trusted asset information to support accountable engineering decisions. The paper introduces the Integrated BIM-to-Decision Framework, an original conceptual synthesis structured around six interconnected layers: purpose and information requirements; information foundations; collaborative delivery; governance and assurance; digital enablement; and engineering decisions and feedback. The framework positions governance as the mechanism through which shared information becomes trusted information, while engineering expertise and professional judgment remain the foundation of consequential decisions. Using a conceptual synthesis methodology, the research draws on the ISO 19650 series, established BIM literature, interoperability principles, digital-twin research, and professional practice. It identifies a gap between existing approaches focused separately on BIM maturity, information management, interoperability, or digital technologies. The proposed framework addresses this fragmentation by connecting the complete pathway from organizational and asset needs to structured information, governed digital capabilities, engineering action, and continuous feedback. The paper defines the principal concepts and boundaries of the framework, compares it with established BIM approaches, and presents seven research propositions for future empirical testing. Potential applications are discussed in relation to infrastructure programs, reconstruction initiatives, and smart-city development, where fragmented information and complex institutional responsibilities can significantly affect project outcomes. This Version 1.0 establishes the conceptual architecture, original contribution, and initial research propositions. The framework has not yet been empirically validated. Future versions will introduce measurable maturity criteria and validation through expert consultation, comparative case studies, and practical implementation. The research develops and formally documents the ideas presented in “Beyond Traditional Engineering: How BIM Is Reshaping Engineering,” delivered in Amman, Jordan, on 28 July 2026.

Truth-Blind Lifecycle-Conditioned Metamorphic Testing: OpenSees Tier-A Evidence and Software

Prospective truth-blind lifecycle-conditioned metamorphic-testing artifact for rollback-sensitive numerical software. The release records OpenSees 3.8.0 at commit 6e55293513192aa05c7e1205e66a5a1a1ed088c4, a frozen information-flow protocol, 24 constructed cases, 72 fresh native processes, isolated truth sidecars, detector outputs, post-freeze evaluation, canaries, source, executable, environment, licenses, and SHA-256 hashes. All 72 process outcomes matched the prespecified four-way branch; all 24 cases reproduced across three processes; all 27 detected runs ranked the prespecified candidate first; and no localization was emitted in the other 45 runs. Accreditation documents in the D4 Software Engineering Technology Study Program are dispersed across devices and locations, complicating retrieval, version control, validation, and completeness monitoring. This study develops web-based SIDA TRPL using Waterfall, Laravel 13, SQLite, an in-memory Inverted Index, and BM25 (k1 = 1.5; b = 0.75). Black-box testing showed 7/7 scenarios successful (100%). On five documents and five multi-term queries, BM25 ranked the target first in all cases (5/5; Hit@1 = 100%), while literal SQL LIKE retrieved only 1/5 targets (20%). Role-based UAT accepted 12/12 scenarios (100\%). Nielsen inspection found eight heuristics fulfilled and two partially fulfilled, mainly undo/recovery and help/documentation. In the test environment, SIDA TRPL supports centralized document management, role-based validation, completeness monitoring, and relevance-oriented retrieval; production effectiveness requires further evaluation.

African and European Haplotypes Carry Different Slick PRLR Alleles in Criollo and Senepol Cattle — analysis code, figures and supporting data

Analysis code, configuration, intermediate result tables and figure-generating scripts supporting the manuscript "African and European Haplotypes Carry Different Slick PRLR Alleles in Criollo and Senepol Cattle" (submitted to Animal Genetics). What the study does. The slick coat phenotype of tropically adapted cattle arises from independent truncating mutations of the prolactin receptor (PRLR). Allele counts locate such a variant but do not source it. This work phases the receptor gene without the minor-allele-frequency filter that phasing normally applies, so that each carrier haplotype can be read at the causal site itself, and then assigns every carrier haplotype to a reference panel separately by functional class of site, keeping N'Dama distinct from the sanga populations rather than pooling them as "African". Three truncating alleles segregating in Criollo cattle of the Caribbean and northern South America are resolved: SLICK1 (c.1382del, p.Ala461ValfsTer2) sits on a West African taurine (N'Dama) background in four of five carrier haplotypes, whereas SLICK2 (c.1489C>T, p.Arg497*) and SLICK3 (c.1394C>A, p.Ser465*) sit on European taurine backgrounds. A fourth truncating allele, SLICK5 (c.1396A>T, p.Lys466*), fails a panel-specificity test and is reported as excluded rather than assigned. Referred to its lineage-matched British control, the Senepol carries about six percentage points more West African ancestry, which keeps an African route into tropically adapted taurine cattle open. Investigation of Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) use and drug resistance characteristics in HIV-positive patients

Objective In recent years, the global increase in drug resistance rates against antiretroviral therapy (ART) regimens has underscored the importance of incorporating HIV drug resistance testing into routine clinical practice and its critical role in treatment success. The aim of this study was to determine HIV drug resistance and the associated genetic mutations in 278 treatment-naïve HIV-1–infected patients followed at our clinic. Methods This single-center retrospective study evaluated treatment-naïve HIV-1–infected individuals followed at our institution. Prior to ART initiation, whole blood samples collected in EDTA tubes were sent to the National HIV/AIDS Confirmation Center and Viral Hepatitis Reference Laboratory of the General Directorate of Public Health, Ministry of Health of Türkiye. Viral RNA extraction was performed, and the HIV-1 pol region was amplified using reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Amplified products were examined by agarose gel electrophoresis and subsequently sequenced using the Sanger sequencing method on an ABI 3500 XL platform (Applied Biosystems, USA). The resulting FASTA sequences were aligned using Unipro Ugene v50 software, and consensus sequences for the protease and reverse transcriptase (RT) regions were generated. Viral subtype determination was performed using the Rega HIV-1 Subtyping Tool (v3). Drug resistance mutations (DRMs) were classified using the Stanford University HIV Drug Resistance Database (HIVdb v9.7), and resistance rates and mutation profiles were determined for protease inhibitors (PIs), nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs), and non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs). Results Of the 278 treatment-naïve HIV-1–infected patients included in the study, 240 (86.3%) were male and 38 (13.7%) were female. The mean age was 41.8 ± 12.5 years, with no significant age difference between sexes (males: 41.5 ± 12.5; females: 43.4 ± 12.5; p = 0.397). Resistance-associated mutations (RAMs) were detected in 154 patients (55.4%). After excluding mutations that did not affect susceptibility to any antiretroviral agent, clinically relevant DRMs conferring resistance to at least one drug class were identified in 123 patients (44.2%).When DRM frequencies were evaluated in the entire cohort (n = 278), PI-associated mutations were detected in 51 patients (18.3%), NRTI-associated mutations in 14 patients (5.03%), and NNRTI-associated mutations in 63 patients (22.7%).After exclusion of polymorphic mutations in the NNRTI group, NNRTI resistance-associated mutations were identified in only nine patients (3.23%). The most frequently observed mutations were M46L for PIs, revertant-type T215D/N/S for NRTIs, and E138G/A and K103N for NNRTIs. Conclusions According to our findings, susceptibility rates of agents recommended for first-line therapy were 99.6% for TDF, 98.2% for FTC and 3TC, and 98.5% for DOR, whereas susceptibility rates for alternative treatment options were 83.8% for ATV, 99.6% for DRV, and 78.4% for RPV. Comparison of the observed DRM rates with the literature demonstrated that PI resistance was higher than reported global estimates, while NRTI and NNRTI resistance rates were consistent with international data. Antiretroviral drug resistance is well recognized as a key determinant of ART failure. Accordingly, prioritizing agents with a high genetic barrier in first-line therapy is essential for achieving sustained viral suppression and long-term treatment success.
