Investigations of the Evolved Molecular Basis for Terpenoid Biosynthesis in Marine Sponges

It is found that A. cavernosa retains the full eukaryotic ancestral mevalonate pathway for terpene precursor biosynthesis, providing additional evidence for the ancestral origin of metazoan terpenoid biosynthesis and further the understanding of early metazoan adaptive evolution.

Molecular sources of monoterpenoid chemodiversity in the Asteraceae Tanacetum vulgare suggest a new model for the evolution of specialized metabolism

Highly diversified specialized metabolism enables plant communication with pollinators, herbivores, and protectors1–4. Its chemodiversity, under which evenness, richness and variation is summarized5–7, includes many compounds without known function1–4 and presents an evolutionary conundrum about how and what is selecte...

A metabolic model to investigate the evolution of chemodiversity

Plants produce a great chemodiversity, which is the diversity of specialized metabolites (SMs). These SMs are produced in complex metabolic pathways and play an important role in inter-species interactions. There are numerous hypotheses about the evolutionary processes which brought about and maintain chemodiversity. S...

Enhanced terpenoid synthesis in Alternaria alstroemeriae PPL7 via co-fermentation with Paeonia lactiflora roots: integrated metabolomic and transcriptomic analysis

This study elucidates the adaptive mechanisms by which endophytic fungi remodel their metabolic networks to efficiently synthesize plant-derived terpenoids and provides novel strain resources and a theoretical basis for the sustainable manufacturing of terpenoid natural products using synthetic biology strategies.

Lineage-specific enzyme optimization underlies divergent evolution of trans-Cinnamaldehyde and Eugenol biosynthesis in Cinnamomum cassia and Cinnamomum verum.

Closely related plant species often exhibit striking diversity in their specialized metabolism, yet the genomic and evolutionary mechanisms driving this divergence are often elusive. The globally important cinnamon species Cinnamomum cassia and C. verum represent a classic example, producing leaf essential oils dominat...
