Abstract
This paper presents a metamaterial-inspired patch antenna is designed for fifth-generation (5G) communication systems. The proposed antenna, with a compact dimension of 65 × 65 mm2, employs an inset-fed patch on an FR4 substrate with a defected ground plane to enhance impedance matching. A 5×5 array of metamaterial unit cell is strategically positioned at a distance of 0.1λ in front of the radiator to manipulate electromagnetic wave propagation and further improve antenna performance. The integration of the metamaterial array results in a measured gain of 7.32 dBi, radiation efficiency of 83.70%, and enhanced bandwidth compared to the conventional design. The proposed configuration not only ensures stable frequency response and improved directivity but also offers advantages such as compactness, ease of fabrication, and suitability for modern 5G wireless devices. Simulation results confirm significant improvements in return loss, gain, and radiation characteristics, validating the effectiveness of the metamaterial concept in high-performance antenna design.
Terahertz (THz)- based antennas are essential for future 6G sensing and short range communications, especially when multi-band flexibility and compact di mensions are required. This paper presents a compact microstrip patch an tenna designed for THz applications with tri-band operation. The antenna is formed out of a r...

A 3.5 GHz microstrip patch antenna is developed in this study with a metamaterial-based enhancement of sub-6 GHz 5G communication. The suggested design uses Rogers Reinforced Teflon /duroid 5880, having a relative electric permittivity of 2.2 and a dissipation factor of 0.0009, with a house-shaped copper patch as the r...

This paper presents the design of a rectangular patch antenna intended for 5G applications. Initially, the antenna was modelled on a Rogers RT/Duroid 5880 substrate. Following optimisation of the structure's dimensions, the simulation results showed good performance at a frequency of 26 GHz. At this frequency, the ante...

This paper presents a gain-enhancement technique for a compact and low-profile dipole–Yagi antenna operating at 28 GHz for millimeter-wave 5G applications. Unlike conventional Yagi–Uda antennas, where director elements are arranged in a single plane, the proposed design employs symmetrically paired directors placed on...

A four-element multiple-input multiple-out (MIMO) antenna employing a metamaterial (MMT)-based structure is presented for sub-6 GHz wireless applications. The antenna is fabricated on an FR4 substrate and operates over the 5.7–5.9 GHz band, centred at 5.8 GHz. The overall antenna size is 46 × 44 × 1.6 mm3 (0.89λ0 × 0.8...
