Findings indicate that BLIS WYQ-2cin possesses potential as a natural antibiotic alternative for the prevention and control of porcine bacterial diarrhea.

Abstract

Simple Summary The escalating antibiotic resistance crisis necessitates the urgent development of safe and effective alternatives for the prevention and control of swine-origin bacterial diarrhea. In the present study, Loigolactobacillus coryniformis WYQ-2, isolated from pickled vegetables, was employed to systematically characterize the physicochemical properties and antimicrobial activity of its bacteriocin-like WYQ-2cin. The substance displayed potent antibacterial activity against Gram-negative pathogens, including diarrheagenic Escherichia coli, primarily through disruption of cell membrane integrity, and retained stability under high temperature, acidic/alkaline conditions, and UV irradiation. These findings indicate that BLIS WYQ-2cin possesses potential as a natural antibiotic alternative for the prevention and control of porcine bacterial diarrhea.
