Characterization and Antibacterial Activity of a Low-Molecular-Weight Bacteriocin-like Inhibitory Substance S-2 Produced by Leuconostoc falkenbergense SBL-85-2 Against Aeromonas hydrophila
Experiments confirmed that this substance is heat-stable, non-toxic, and exerts antibacterial activity through disruption of the outer membrane, which provides a novel strategy for controlling A. hydrophila in aquaculture.
Abstract
Simple Summary This study aimed to characterize BLIS S-2, a bacteriocin-like inhibitory substance produced by lactic acid bacteria, and evaluate its potential against the aquatic pathogen Aeromonas hydrophila. Experiments confirmed that this substance is heat-stable, non-toxic, and exerts antibacterial activity through disruption of the outer membrane. Collectively, these findings provide a novel strategy for controlling A. hydrophila in aquaculture and offer a promising direction for reducing antibiotic dependence and developing safe, effective alternatives.
Findings indicate that BLIS WYQ-2cin possesses potential as a natural antibiotic alternative for the prevention and control of porcine bacterial diarrhea.
PAM3-2 is a proteinaceous bacteriocin-like antibacterial substance produced by marine-derived A. pittii with high physicochemical stability, and exhibits broad-spectrum antibacterial activity, particularly against S. Paratyphi B, and its antibacterial effect is associated with disruption of membrane integrity.

Nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) are important pathogens of fish, causing chronic infections that are difficult to control in aquaculture. In this study, we evaluated the in vitro antimicrobial activity of twelve plant-derived compounds against six fish-associated NTM strains using a broth microdilution assay. Minimum...

Background: Dental caries is a biofilm-associated disease in which Streptococcus mutans plays a central role. This study evaluated HT-2-1-3, a Vespidae venom-derived antimicrobial peptide, as a potential topical anti-caries lead. Methods: Candidate peptides were synthesized by Fmoc solid-phase peptide synthesis and cha...
