This study characterizes this dual-lineage phenotype in hepatocellular carcinoma and investigates its association with SPINT2, and identifies SPINT2 as a candidate molecule associated with these malignant phenotypes.
Abstract
Simple Summary Liver cancer displays substantial tumor-cell heterogeneity, including tumor cells that simultaneously express hepatocytic and cholangiocytic markers. This study characterizes this dual-lineage phenotype in hepatocellular carcinoma and investigates its association with SPINT2. By integrating patient tissue profiling, single-cell analyses, and functional experiments, we show that this phenotype is associated with adverse clinical outcomes and aggressive tumor features. SPINT2 is further identified as a candidate molecule associated with these malignant phenotypes. These findings provide insight into HCC cellular plasticity and the biological heterogeneity of dual-lineage tumor states.
Hepatoblastoma (HB) is the most common primary pediatric liver cancer. Among childhood tumors, it has one of the highest mortality rates with 20% cases resulting in death or liver transplantation. Identifying high-risk tumors has been challenged by tumor heterogeneity. Current clinical high-risk stratification re...

Simple Summary Hepatocellular carcinoma is a deadly liver cancer where immunotherapy helps only some patients. Tertiary lymphoid structures are immune cell clusters in and around tumors that predict immunotherapy response, but detecting them currently requires invasive biopsies that risk missing these structures due to...

The clinical assessment, treatment, and prognostic evaluation of breast cancer liver metastasis (BCLM) remain clinically challenging. Hepatic involvement is often identified only after substantial intrahepatic tumor burden, radiologically evident parenchymal involvement, abnormal liver function, or symptoms attributabl...

Serine Protease Inhibitor Kunitz type-2 (SPINT2) has been reported to play a role in the progression of various tumor types. This inhibitor is generally described as a tumor suppressor that affects migration and invasion. However, a few recent studies have reported the opposite, suggesting an oncogenic role for

Simple Summary Pancreatic cancer is an aggressive disease and a leading cause of cancer-related deaths. Cells are able to undergo changes in the tumor, which is correlated with reduced efficacy of the immune system to target and destroy the tumor. This is a leading factor contributing to the severity of the cancer and...
