Integration of Transformational Leadership and Managerial Competence of School Principals in Managing Change Towards Effective Schools
Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to analyze the integration of transformational leadership and principals’ managerial competence in managing change towards effective schools. The focus of this research is directed at the ability of school principals to plan, implement, and evaluate school programs in a participatory and adaptive manner. Method: This research used a descriptive qualitative approach with in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis techniques. Data were obtained from three public junior high schools in Simeulue Regency and analyzed interactively through the stages of reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. Results: The results show that school principals have strong managerial competence and are able to apply transformational leadership to every aspect of school management. School principals play an active role in building collaboration, providing motivation, and creating a reflective work culture oriented towards quality improvement. The integration of these two aspects contributes to increasing the effectiveness of schools and to creating an adaptive and innovative environment. Novelty: This study produces an integrative leadership model that combines managerial skills and transformational leadership as the basis for sustainable school change management. This model shows that the success of schools does not only depend on efficient management, but also on inspiring and collaborative leadership.
