Blockchain and AI for Secure Smart Contracts in Construction 6.0
Abstract
This chapter explores the convergence of Blockchain and Artificial Intelligence as foundational technologies for secure, transparent, and intelligent smart-contract ecosystems in Construction 6.0. It highlights how blockchain&s;s immutability, decentralized trust, and auditable ledgers address persistent industry challenges such as fragmented workflows, payment delays, supply-chain opacity, and contractual disputes. AI complements these capabilities through predictive analytics, anomaly detection, natural language processing, and explainable decision support, enabling adaptive and risk-aware smart-contract execution. The chapter also emphasizes applications in decentralized project management, Artificial Intelligence-enhanced supply-chain transparency, and automated fraud detection supported by verifiable oracles, BIM integration, and digital twins. Governance frameworksincluding decentralized autonomous organizations, human-in-the-loop safeguards, and interoperability standards such as ISO 19650, Industry Foundation Classes / buildingSMART Data Dictionary, Electronic Product Code Information Services, and World Wide Web Consortium Verifiable Credentialsare integral to ensuring legal compliance, accountability, and ethical automation. Together, blockchain and AI form a resilient foundation for trustworthy, efficient, and sustainable contract management within Construction 6.0.
