This paper develops a phase-reduced description of transonic buffet, treating buffet as a stable autonomous fluid limit cycle that is weakly perturbed by harmonic structural motion. When combined with aerodynamic work, the phase reduction model yields closed-form expressions for the equivalent aerodynamic damping and stiffness, together with a unified description of phase locking, phase slipping and aeroelastic stability of the fluid-structural system. The resulting analysis provides new insight into the mechanisms governing aeroelastic instability in oscillatory flows, including aerodynamic damping maps, singular behaviour at zero detuning, and broad regions of subcritical aeroelastic instability.
Despite the physical significance of the compressible Navier–Stokes equations in the presence of strong boundary layers, rigorous mathematical theories in this area remain at an early stage of development. In this paper, we establish the structural stability of shear flow boundary layer profiles for the two-dimensional...

This study numerically investigates the unsteady flow characteristics and particle dynamics of a solid rocket motor under transverse vibration overload. A three-dimensional two-phase flow model is established to compare the effects of lateral steady overload and coupled vibration overload. Results show that transverse...
The aim of this thesis is to investigate unsteady aerodynamic and aeroelastic instabilities in two distinct systems that share a common physical and methodological foundation: in both cases, an airflow interacts nonlinearly with a structure or with an internal geometry, producing instabilities that are difficult to pre...
Transonic shock buffet arises from a self-sustained interaction between unsteady shock motion and the boundary layer and remains a fundamental challenge in transonic aerodynamics. Recent advances in morphing-surface technology offer new opportunities to manipulate shock wave–boundary-layer interactions actively through...
