The heterogeneity and compartmentalization of early immune activation explain why routine clinical assessment and standard inflammatory markers frequently fail to detect active disease in primary care and reframes diagnostic delay as a biologically driven phenomenon rather than a limitation of clinical practice.
This work has shown that due to recent findings obtained at cellular and molecular levels, it has been possible to better define the interactions between the innate and adaptive immune systems and to better explain how RA-specific antibodies can exert a regulatory effect on the innate immune system.

Acute rheumatic fever is an immune-mediated sequela of Streptococcus pyogenes (group A Streptococcus) infection, presenting with fever, arthritis, chorea, rash, and, crucially, carditis. Without effective secondary prophylaxis and care, acute rheumatic fever can progress to chronic rheumatic heart disease, a leading ye...

Improved understanding of the integrated landscape of the RCD network may facilitate the discovery of novel biomarkers and support the development of innovative therapies to restore immune tolerance and control chronic inflammatory damage in autoimmune diseases.

Inflammation is inseparable from blood-cell biology: circulating cells detect inflammatory cues, bone-marrow progenitors alter lineage output, erythroid iron supply is actively restricted, and haemostatic pathways can be recruited as components of host defence. Yet the expression “haematological inflammation” is used i...
