Abstract
The electronic circular dichroism (ECD) of a series of monomeric and dimeric γ-lactones was investigated using time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) and simplified TDDFT. Given the inherent conformational flexibility of these compounds, a multi-conformer conformational replica exchange sampling technique (CREST) and commandline energetic sorting (CENSO) approach to obtain low-lying energy conformers was employed for spectral simulation. Our results show that the simplified sTD-DFT/GFN2-xTB tight-binding model fails to consistently describe the observed Cotton effects. In contrast, TD-CAM-B3LYP calculations correctly reproduced these experimental data. Detailed analysis of the electric and magnetic transition dipole moments reveal that subtle structural variations such as ring puckering or side-chain rotations can significantly affect the relative direction of the electric and magnetic transition dipole moments. These geometric shifts directly cause the sign changes in rotational strength and the cotton effect, emphasizing the critical necessity of accounting for the Boltzmann-weighted conformational ensemble to achieve reliable absolute configuration assignments.
We report a systematic computational investigation of the (chiro)ptical properties of a series of intrinsically chiral organic ketones, considering the prediction of one-photon absorption, electronic circular dichroism, fluorescence, and circularly polarized luminescence spectra, together with the absorption and lumine...
Herein, we report the thermodynamic locking of conformational chirality in a [9]cycloparaphenylene (CPP) by external appending of (R)- or (S)-BINOL units. Through-space steric interactions induce asymmetric torsion in the CPP backbone, generating a strained nanohoop with the lowest-energy conformer (ΔG = −2.9 kcal mol–...

Understanding the molecular-level hydration of fructose tautomers remains a challenge due to their rapid interconversion and structural complexity. A dual-scale approach was employed, combining long-time classical molecular dynamics (MD) and ab initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) to elucidate differences in the hydrogen-b...

Exact π-extension offers a molecularly precise approach for interrogating how peripheral structural modification governs the conformation, packing, and chiroptical response of atomically defined chiral nanographenes. Here we report DN-1, a naphthalene-extended chiral bilayer nanographene that reveals the regulatory rol...
