This study provides the first systematic taxonomic inventory of Cicadellidae in the reserve and provides baseline data for future taxonomic and diversity studies of leafhoppers in the Qinling Mountains region of China.

Abstract

A systematic survey of the leafhoppers of Shaanxi Hanzhong Crested Ibis National Nature Reserve was conducted from March to September 2021 across three sampling sites: Longting, Huayuan, and Yaoping, yielding 3,033 specimens representing 76 species, 47 genera, 14 tribes, and 10 subfamilies. The assemblage was numerically dominated by Kolla paulula (Walker, 1858) and Kolla nigrifascia Yang & Li, 2000. Diversity and evenness reached their highest values in June, whereas specimen abundance peaked in July. Community similarity analyses indicated clear differences among sampling sites and months, with particularly low similarity between the Longting agro-ecosystem and the two forest sites. This study provides the first systematic taxonomic inventory of Cicadellidae in the reserve and provides baseline data for future taxonomic and diversity studies of leafhoppers in the Qinling Mountains region of China. The survey revealed one new genus and a new species of Empoascini described and illustrated here: Neoempoasca Dai, Yu & Li gen. nov. with type species Neoempoasca lizizhongi Dai, Yu & Li sp. nov.

Two new species of Lepanthes (Orchidaceae: Pleurothallidinae) from western Ecuador and notes on Lepanthes chrysokallos

The Pacific slope of the Ecuadorian Andes and the adjacent Chocó lowlands represent one of the most diverse habitats for orchids, characterized by high levels of endemism and a significant number of species that remain undescribed. This underscores the persistent gaps in our current botanical knowledge of this region....

Spider (Arachnida, Araneae) diversity and distribution in the Gandhigram Rural Institute campus, Dindigul district, Tamil Nadu, India

Spiders are key arthropod predators that regulate insect populations and respond sensitively to habitat heterogeneity, making them effective indicators of ecosystem condition. This study assessed spider diversity, distribution, and functional guild structure across six habitat types within the Gandhigram Rural Institut...

Four new species of Pristimantis myersi group (Anura: Craugastoridae) from Carchi, Ecuador: cryptic diversity in unique and threatened high-Andean ecosystems

This study describes four new species of frogs in the genus Pristimantis, belonging to the myersi group, and represents the first attempt to link the distribution of these species with the spatiotemporal dynamics of vegetation cover in Carchi, showing a net loss of more than 9,000 hectares between 1985 and 2022.

Butterflies (Lepidoptera: Papilionoidea) of the Southern Bolkar Mountains and Adjacent Çukurova Plain (Mersin, Türkiye): Richness and Turnover Along a 2–2200 m Elevational Gradient

The southern slopes of the Bolkar Mountains, in the western Bolkar massif of the central Taurus range, compress the full sequence of eastern Mediterranean vegetation zones into a short horizontal distance, yet their butterfly fauna has never been surveyed as a continuous gradient. Here the butterflies (Lepidoptera: Pap...

Contributions to the Central Luzon myxobiota: a rapid assessment of litter-inhabiting species in submontane forest on Mt. Mingan, Philippines

The Sierra Madre Mountain Range, the longest mountain chain in the Philippines, serves as an important biogeographic corridor in Luzon Island but remains poorly studied for protistan diversity. Within this landscape, Mt. Mingan in Aurora Province has not yet been explored for myxomycetes. In this study, records were ge...
