Abstract

A 3 m-class lightweight unmanned airship is proposed for near-human security inspection, where multirotor UAVs are limited by endurance, downwash, and close-range safety concerns. A vehicle-transportable semi-rigid frame composed of carbon-fiber tubes and segmented prestressed cable-nets is designed. A beam-cable finite element model is coupled with NSGA-II and Abaqus batch analysis to optimize the initial stresses of six cable-net regions. The optimization objectives include maximum displacement, maximum von Mises stress, and total initial stress. From 1195 feasible designs, 125 Pareto solutions are obtained. The selected compromise solution gives a maximum displacement of 8.707 mm, a maximum von Mises stress of 13.970 MPa, and a total initial stress of 31.342 MPa. Compared with the full carbon-fiber rod frame, the prestressed cable-net scheme reduces the line-material mass by 396.05 g, corresponding to a 54.6% reduction.

A Constraint-Based Safety Evaluation Model for Low-Impact Separation of Combined UAVs

For the wingtip-connected combined UAV considered here, the proposed constraint-based assessment demonstrates that the clearance margin changes sign between the sampled 5° and 6° angles of attack, thereby bracketing the clearance transition within this interval. This study presents a deterministic, constraint-based ass...

Underwater Configuration and Safe Operating Domain of a Deep-Sea Mining Vehicle–Flexible Hose System Considering Structural and Two-Phase Flow Constraints

Flexible hoses connecting seabed mining vehicles to relay stations must remain suspended, limit vehicle loads, satisfy bending constraints, and maintain stable slurry transport. This study combines a lumped mass hose model, time domain vehicle motion analysis, and sequential structural-to-flow coupling with CFD–DEM to...

Coupled Variable-Mass Flight Dynamics and Active Control of Unmanned Cargo Airships with Transient Hydrodynamic Effects

Large unmanned cargo airships may support heavy-lift logistics in regions without runway infrastructure, but payload release produces a rapid buoyancy surplus and changes the vehicle mass properties. This study develops a simulation framework coupling six-degree-of-freedom variable-property flight dynamics, an active s...
